THE EARLY 2000S IT GIRL BAG

The trend that we've all been waiting to come back, the Balenciaga Motorcycle Bag, now renamed the Balenciaga City Bag. Yes, you heard that right. The early 2000's it girl bag that was seen everywhere from Kate Moss, the Olsen Twins, and Nicole Richie is back.

Originally launched in 2001 the Balenciaga City Bag took the fashion world by storm. Original pieces from that era can still be purchased online on websites such as TheRealReal or Vestiaire Collective.

However, the original bag is no longer sold on the Balenciaga website.

Balenciaga not only updated the name of the well-known and coveted it girl bag but the shape as well. The bag is no longer a loose rectangular shape but it is wider along the base of the bag, which ultimately creates a pyramid shape.

The new and updated version comes in various different sizes as follows...mini, nano, small, medium, and large. It also comes in multiple different colorways and hardware. Such as neutrals like black (the very first City bags only came in black and brown), white, and beige. In addition to the bolder colorways such as hot pink, orange, green, and red.

Although I am not a fan of the updated shape or style of the bag, I’ve been waiting for this trend to come back since the day it officially died. In my opinion, a funeral should’ve been held as it was one of the most iconic bags. When I think of classic and iconic designer bags I think of the Hermes' Birkin, Chanel's 2.55, the Givenchy Antigona, Dior's Lady Dior, and the Balenciaga City Bag.

Fortunately for all of us, the Balenciaga City Bag is back and hopefully here to stay… or at least for quite some time.
